Homeownership

Applicants must meet Eligibility Requirements and attend an Application Workshop to submit an application for a Habitat home. Application Workshops are held periodically, this site for work shop notices.

 

To qualify, a family must:

Have a housing need.

You must be living in something substandard, overcrowded or unsafe. Examples: a leaky roof, no indoor plumbing, poor heating, exposed electrical wires, structural damage, black mold, etc.

Your Income

You must have a steady income in order to make their monthly mortgage payments. The family income must fall within these income limits based on the number of people in the family:

Be willing to “Partner”

Completing 300 hours of sweat equity for a single parent family or 600 hours for a two parent family, attend financial and homeowner education classes. It is expected that 216 hours of sweat equity per adult, will be performed before construction begins on the family’s house and that all hours of sweat equity will be performed prior to the family moving into the house. Sweat equity hours can be earned by working in the habitat office, the ReStore, attending monthly classes and construction activity.

Berkeley County Residents

Be a resident of Berkeley County for a period of at least twelve months or work in Berkeley County for the last two years.
