Introducing Vantayesia & Sons

A Dream Rooted in Love and Determination
For as long as she can remember, homeownership has been a dream for Vantayesia. As a single mother raising two young boys, ages 6 and 5, her journey has been filled with both deep love and significant challenges. Her youngest son has autism, and like many families navigating special needs, Vantayesia has faced obstacles that often go unseen.
While living in an apartment, she worked tirelessly to create stability for her children. As her son’s autism-related behaviors became more difficult to manage, neighbors began to complain, and the situation grew increasingly stressful. Wanting the best for her boys, Vantayesia made the difficult decision to move back into her parents’ home.
Though grateful for her family’s support, she never let go of her dream. She imagined a place where her boys could play freely, where her son could be himself without fear of disruption, and where their family could truly put down roots and build a future together.
Giving to Others While Holding Onto Hope
Every day, Vantayesia dedicates herself to caring for others. As a home health caregiver, she provides compassion and comfort to elderly individuals, hospice patients, and children with special needs. She supports families during some of life’s most difficult moments, often placing the needs of others before her own.
Despite her tireless work and determination, the dream of owning a home always felt just out of reach—until Habitat for Humanity of Berkeley County became part of her story.
Through the Habitat homeownership program, hard work, and perseverance, Vantayesia is now preparing to receive the keys to a home she can finally call her own. For her family, this home represents more than just walls and a roof. It represents stability, security, and independence—a safe place where her boys can grow, thrive, and feel at home.
A Milestone Home, A Life Changed Forever
Vantayesia’s home marks a historic milestone for Berkeley Habitat. It is the 50th home built by the organization and the final home in the Hutchinson Lane development in Moncks Corner.
While the completion of the house is a celebration of what has been accomplished, the true impact lies in the life that will unfold inside it. Two young boys will soon have bedrooms of their own. A hardworking mother will gain the peace of mind that comes with affordable homeownership. And a family that has faced uncertainty will finally have a place to call home.
As move-in day approaches, Vantayesia isn’t just receiving a house—she is achieving a dream years in the making. And 50 homes later, Berkeley Habitat continues to show what’s possible when a community comes together to build hope, one family and one home at a time.
